FAREWELL TO CONSTRUCTION, HELLO COMPASSION
by Lewis Robinson

Today we started off with an early morning before our final day of construction. though we had seen already everything that we had done and were excited of what we were doing, we were all incredibly exhausted from the work and just really wanted to get the day over with. I was given the incredibly exciting duty of wheel-barrowing the concrete from one side to the other with a few others while the rest of them all mixed concrete or cut rebar. We ended up turning the concrete into a game of who could finish first though my team was farther from the whole we game them a challenge but came up just a few seconds short in the end, but it definitely gave us joy in the work we were doing. When we finished our final task of construction we were sent off in teams to pray over the worksite and for what it was to become as the next teams would finish the work that we started.

In the afternoon we spent our time working at the church with the Compassion team. There were around 60 kids there and only about 20 of us to work and play with them and show them God's love through the simple actions we performed. Though we couldn't really talk to them, all we needed to do was to hold and love and hug the children and you would just see there faces light up. One little girl I played with was about 5 or 6 years old, though she never told me and i dont know why, was just so happy and had the most infectious laugh ever. I played with her almost the whole time and she spent about an hour straight on my shoulders laughing and having a blast. I thought it was absolutely amazing though how at the end when we were saying goodbye and i was trying to put her down to leave and say goodbye, she wouldn't let go at all. When i had someone tell her in spanish that i had to go she actually grabbed hold even harder and Cheryl had to pry her off me.

I've definitely learned over the course of the trip exactly how awesome God's love is and how apparent it is in the work that we do for the people of Peru. I've learned that every little thing counts and just a little smile can make someones day amazing!

The Bittersweet End

Although most of us are excited to see family and friends and we are busting with stories to tell all the people at home, I am not sure if we are ready to leave Peru where God's voice seems so clear and serving comes so easily.
