WE WORKED AND WORKED AND WORKED TODAY
by Missy Zehr

Today, we woke up, as usual, then ate breakfast as usual and then got on the bus as usual.  We drove to the work site and we assigned our tasks, as either digging the forever trench, moving some rocks or moving the dirt that had come out of the trench.  I was stationed at the trench digging and so, which seems to be the only thing that I ever do at the work site.  It was hard work, but we persevered and by the time lunch came we had finished the trench up to the "pilon/big concrete block" in the ground.

We went to the blue and white church for lunch (I don't remember the actual name of it) and we had some pasta for lunch.  It was one of the first meals that did not consist of chicken and rice, which was nice, but the rice and chicken is still good.

We then went back to the work site and we went back to the stations that we were working at.  I went on to moving rocks and did not shovel any more.  I discovered that moving those heavy rocks in wheel barrows through the soft soft sand is really hard work, and at some points I wished I was digging the trench again.  Soon, but not soon enough, we made came up with the plan of making a rock chain to pass over the soft sand so that we could make the appropriate piles along the trench.  This worked very well, and we were happy to not have to use the wheel barrows so much since it is such hard work.  As we were making the rock chain and moving the huge piles, some Peruvians came to the site and helped us move the rocks, even the little kids were such good helpers.  There were a bunch of Peruvian women at the beginning of the line and some even were carrying their kids on their backs as they picked up the rocks.  It was so encouraging to see, and helped up keep up our work.

Getting back on the bus at the end of the work day (a little later than normal) we started to drive and as we were backing up, Marco (the bus driver) hit a truck behind us.  The poor bus has a nice dent in the back now, but not too bad.  But all is well, and he is still a good driver.

We had a traditional Peruvian meal for dinner and it was interesting, but good.  It still consisted of chicken and rice, but it was presented a little different with some strange sauce stuff.  We also ate in a different room than usual at the Larco church.  It was a nice change of scenery.

Back at the guest house we had a debrief and chatted, and then the time came for me to do this blog.  So that is what I'm doing, but will soon be done.  We worked hard today, and hopefully won't be too sore for tomorrow!

The Bittersweet End

Although most of us are excited to see family and friends and we are busting with stories to tell all the people at home, I am not sure if we are ready to leave Peru where God's voice seems so clear and serving comes so easily.
